Day 4 - St.Andrews, Dundee, along the coast to Aberdeen

What an amazing day!  Rented a car and had to laugh when we both got in on the wrong sides of the car. But Mark has adjusted pretty quickly to driving on the left hand side of the road.

We crossed the Queensferry bridge. I only mention this because my paternal great grandmother immigrated from Queensferry and landed in Sunnyside, Utah. She died from tuberculosis at age 41.

First stop was the town of St. Andrews and the Old Golf Course. I think Mark was dreaming of playing but gosh the wind was blowing so hard! You can walk on the course because it is public land- so we walked the 18th fairway and took a picture on the Swilcan bridge built over 700 years ago.

We had  lunch at the Jigger Inn which is the hang out for pro’s and their caddie’s. Lovely lunch and good jigger beer.

Then to the St. Andrews cathedral ruins - simply stunning. My picture doesn’t do it justice.

Next was the St. Andrews Castle ruins with their underground tunnels. Tunnels that were designed to take down the castle walls. Only thing that look it down was the ocean.

Made a pit stop in Dundee to check out the Visual Arts Design Museum

And then Broughty Castle. The only notable thing to say here is that the stairs were ultra narrow and the wind was so freaking cold coming off the ocean. Who would want to take down this castle. Too cold to live there.

On to the Arbroath Abbey. The ruins and cemeteries are really spectacular.

The most stunning stop of the day was the Dunnottar Castle. Home of clan Keith in the 14the century and best known for the hiding place for the Scottish Crown Jewels when Oliver Cromwell’s army was invading Scotland.

Drove the scenic coast line.

Stopped to take pictures at the Stonehaven War Memorial and stayed until sunset.

The daffodils are amazing here and in full bloom.

Best meal so far. Mark had steak and I had sea bass.
