On our way to Louisville, Kentucky, we visited a new state! Never been to Indiana. We stopped at Monkey Hollow Winery in Meinrad. Ummm... not so much.
Then heard about the Sisters of St. Benedict Monastery In Ferdinand. They have expanded into beer making. We stopped for a pint. Their philosophy is pray, work , brew and their t-shirts have a picture of a nun and say “Ale Mary”. These are my type of nuns!!
Dinner was lovely ahi tuna for me and steak for Mark at Gordon Bierch. Then a walk around downtown to the Ohio River and a ride back to the hotel on electric scooters. No one was injured!
Louisville Slugger making baseball bats in 1884. Mark held one of Babe Ruth’s bats. A professional bat is made in under a minute. A retail bat in about 30 seconds. The difference is the quality of the wood.
Louisville- badazzled limos to large gold statues!
Roamed around Joe Ley Antiques In a 4 story 1890 schoolhouse with two acres of merchandise. It is the second largest single owned antique store in the country and pretty amazing. Mr Ley was raised in an orphanage and when kicked out at age 18 he started collecting and never stopped. Really amazing. A few of my favorite things...
First distillery- Rabbit Hole
Modern and trendy and lovely Rye. Stayed to enjoy an old fashioned. Yum
Next stop Jim Beam. I thought a distillery that makes 1/3 of the worlds bourbon might not be the best choice but it was a great stop. Extensive tour and Mark bottled his own Knob Creek single barrel to bring back with his the thumb print in the wax top.
Daily selfie!
Sampling straight from barrels. And then bottling your own! Pretty cool.
His bottle heading to be filled and corked.
Wax and thumb print!
Tasting and cocktail at the end! Cheers...
