They say you develop a Camino family walking the Way of St. James. Well, we have been adopted by a group that has been walking together for a while. However, we are old enough to be their parents. Bjorn ordered octopus, a regional specialty, today. I always say that tentacles are on my "no eat" list but Bjorn gave us a couple of bites. Really not bad stuff. Taryn, the Canadian chef, said if done well they are great. If not we'll they are horrible. We asked Taryn why she is walking and she said that she is going to work in Italy for a year to learn the foods and just came on a whim. We laughed when she said she keeps asking herself which pain is worse. The mental, blisters (which btw we have not been plagued with), or the muscles. She turns 26 on Friday so I am thinking all the German boys that are falling all over her will want to celebrate in some way. We didn't see Paul our Korean acquaintance tonight. Guess the hike up the mountain took a toll on him.
Housing- we have decided that the free masons never made it to Spain. New houses are built on top of the old structures. We have seen this literally hundreds of times. Check out this house where the new roof meets the old and the old rock meets the new.
We have done pretty well with hotels since arriving. But I will say that turning off the heat in the middle of the night and also the water heater must be common. We decided that you shower right when you arrive to the hotel. Most hikers say in hostels or albergues but Mark and I decided we really didn't want to rough it that much! However, a hostel is about 5 euro a night vs 50 euro for a hotel room with your own bath. We think the hotel is way worth it!
