Just a bit of day drinking… at it’s finest in Lexington, Kentucky !
Today, we visited two small and I mean VERY small craft distilleries. While the large beautiful distilleries are wonderful to visit meetIng the men and women making their mark with creative bourbon production is really interesting.
Our first stop was Barrel House. They don’t distribute outside of Kentucky. Super small batch and we were able to purchase a bottle just released today. They only produce about 200 barrels a year. I don’t know what it is about us being out with other groups… But, today we were with a group of men from India. The tour guide couldn’t understand the accents so Mark was the interpreter! So funny!
Then on to Bluegrass Distillers. Ok let’s start with… I had my first bourbon mary! So yummy. Why do we think bloody Mary’s need to be made with vodka?
Very small production. They had a bourbon made with blue corn. Very different- a bit nutty. For another bourbon- they send their barrels to a farmer in Vermont that puts his maple in bourbon barrels and then sends the barrels back and bluegrass ages one of their bourbons in the maple barrel. My personal favorite.
We are staying at the Kentucky Horse Park. It is a state run campground next to the Kentucky Horse Park. Seriously beautiful with large trees. Not the easiest sites to back into but it is hustling and bustling state campground.
It has a pool, multiple playgrounds with basketball and tennis courts, super clean laundry, arcade and bathhouses.
We took a long bike ride this morning on their trail system. Came across some gorgeous horse farms.
And Ruby says - Hi!!!
