The angels share!

I wish you all could smell Bardstown, Kentucky! I have no idea how many rickhouses they have but when you pass them you can smell sweet bourbon!  It is luscious. The angel’s share is the bourbon that evaporates from the barrels. After a few years about one fourth of the bourbon will evaporate.

The downside of the angles share is Baudoinia compniacensis  also called whiskey fungus. Houses turn black and so do signs that you better hope you don’t need!

Today we visited the Kentucky Artisan distillery- home of Jefferson Bourbon. After a fun tour we had a nice tasting. This still is almost 100 years old.

Next we visited The Evan Williams Whisky Experience. It was a fun stop by the only place we didn’t purchase. Mostly because their bourbon is widely distributed and easily purchased in Arkansas.

Our last stop was Angels Envy.  They only make one bourbon and one rye. The rye was spectacular and our one splurge of the trip. It was awesome. I was a bit disappointed in their tasting experience but the quality of the rye made up for it.

It was cold and overcast all day - so the fall colors don’t really show up with the cell phone camera but the fall colors were gorgeous.
