Day 3 Last day in Edinburgh

We traveled to Stirling to see the Stirling Castle of the Braveheart fame. You know...Blue faced William Wallace in your best Scottish accent.

In 1296, Edward invaded Scotland, beginning the Scottish independence wars, which would last for the next 60 years. The English found Stirling Castle abandoned and empty, and set about occupying the castle until the battle of Stirling bridge when William Wallace would take it back for the Scots.

In the next picture, you can see where cannon balls struck the castle. Problem the castle was so well designed that cannons could barely reach the main building.

Back when kings lived in the castle,  the buildings were brightly painted to show off their wealth and status. The yellow building is called king’s gold.

Even these gargoyles and statues would have been painted.

Main reception hall.

Our daily selfie.

The castle was very period staged- very plain and easy to maintain.

Local school children getting a lesson. The kids were so invested. It was fun to watch.

Then on to Loch Lomond and highland cows. Ps -I didn’t bring a hair dryer etc. so it is what it is. Personally, I think the highland cow looks better!  This  one liked to snort but was super sweet.

Loch Lomond-

Final stop of the day was Glengoyne Scotch whisky distillery. Great tour and very yummy tasting.

Passed by the Kelpies -30-metre-high horse-head sculptures depicting a Kelpie or shape-shifting water spirit like The Lochness Monster.

My nightly Carlton Hill picture. Went back to see if we could get a full moon picture but it was covered by a thick cloud layer. Heading north tomorrow in a rental car. Pray for us.
