Edinburgh Day 2

After a great nights ssleep, we woke up to sunny skies, brisk breeze and 60 degrees. Walked to the Holyrood Palace. The palace is the official residence of the British monarch  Queen Elizabeth when she visits Scotland   Holyrood Palace has served as the principal residence of the Kings and Queens of Scots since the 16th century, and is a setting for state occasions and official entertaining. No pictures allowed inside. But I cheated and took a picture of the kings chambers. They said the Kings allowed invited guests in to watch them go to beds. Wow what an honor...not.

Then on to the Holyrood Abbey. Really cool ruins of a church built by King David I in 1128. During the 15th century the abbey church was used as a parish church and site for coronations.

We walked the Royal Mike to the St Giles Cathedral. The church has been one of Edinburgh's religious focal points for approximately 900 years.

Then on to the Edinburgh Castle. There has been a royal castle on the rock since at least the reign of David I in the 12th century, and the site continued to be a royal residence until 1633. I loved the message on the old canon to treat the old lady with some respect. I think that would be a great sign for me!

The castle is still standing because it was very well defended!

I found the room you need when the Zombies come.

The Scott Monument.

Then on to what Mark dubbed the adult Disneyland in Scotland. The Scotch Whiskey Experience. Yum!

The Scottish National Museum.

Finished up the day tasting some local beer and enjoying some bagpipes.
