Flight 93 - 911 Memorial, Pennsylvania

Three days after the 22nd anniversary of 911, we visited the Flight 93 National Memorial in Pennsylvania.

This is the second 911 memorial that I have visited. The Pentagon and now Flight 93. I had to hold back tears seeing pictures and hearing the recordings made me angry and sad all over again.

United Airlines Flight 93  with 44 passengers and crew was hijacked by four al- Qaeda terrorists on the morning of September 11, 2001, as part of the 911 attacks.

It is believed the hijackers planned to crash the plane into the U.S. capital building. They failed in their mission when the passengers fought back, forcing the terrorists to crash the plane in Somerset County, Pennsylvania - the heart of the Allegheny Mountains.

The black walkway is along the flight path.

The crash site is now a field filled with wildflowers and butterflies.

After the crash, family members were allowed to view the site from this point and they left notes and memorials and the tradition continues.

This glass reads “A common field one day…a field of honor, forever”.

We visited the memorial wall and found heartbreaking notes and names of the passengers. This woman was about to be a mom.

The tower of voices…

I thought this was a perfect place to leave this painted rock.
