Gettysburg, PA

We explored the historic civil war military park today.

Battle of Gettysburg was fought by Union and Confederate soldiers for three days -July 1, 2 and 3, 1863.

Union General George Meade defeated Confederate General Robert E. Lee. The battle involved the largest number of casualties of the entire war. 23,000 Union and 28,000 Confederate.

Abraham Lincoln gave the “Gettysburg Address” in the National Cemetery.

Four score (80 days) and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent a new nation, conceived in liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.

There are no confederate soldiers buried in Gettysburg. When we entered, a park service member asked us what state we were from and he confirmed we would not find any of “our” people here.

These markers are just numbers. All unknown soldiers.

This area has soldiers by state.

Built by David Stoner in 1852, the historic Sachs Covered Bridge was used by both Union and Confederate Troops during the Civil War Battle of Gettysburg.  Something tells me the metal roof is a recent addition- smile.

Eisenhower National Historic Site preserves the farm of the 34th President Dwight D. Eisenhower.
