North Dakota- the least visited state in the U.S.

I am sure the lack of many or any attractions is the reason for that little fun fact, but if you plan to visit every one of the lower 48 states in a  RV you gotta do it!

While driving on very long straight flat highways and looking at massive agricultural farms and cattle ranches - you can’t help but notice the few things that are different here.

First there are a lot of seagulls and pelicans. I said to Mark “are those seagulls in North Dakota”? With nothing better to do… research Vicki goes to work.  Simple answer North Dakota and Canada are their breeding grounds. Just seems weird to see them here.

Next - there are massive numbers of small lakes. They are in the middle of the farms, next to the roads…one after another.  Seriously, go on google maps, look at North Dakota. The lakes grow both in size and numbers. Another head scratcher…

Reason - it is because glaciers, in the last ice age,  scraped the top soil from the bedrock, and left melt water lakes in the depressions. The lakes stay filled with rain and snow melt.

The population is less than 800,000 and the state has the lowest unemployment in the US. They also have some Route 66 type attractions. The worlds largest Buffalo statue and a very random huge crane.
